Although municipalities face stricter regulations, several federal and state government aid and incentive programs are available for sewer rehabilitation.
Government aid for sewer rehabilitation:
- From 1991 through 2000, nine federal agencies made $44 billion available for a variety of wastewater and drinking water capital improvement projects. These contributions were made primarily by the EPA, the Departure of Agriculture, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Department of Commerce.
- State authorities provided an additional $25 billion in funds for water infrastructure over the past 10 years.
